The Taking Care Fund, an initiative of theatreWashington, was created in 2012 to meet a critical need in our community—assisting currently active Washington-area theater professionals and artists in medical emergency situations.
theatreWashington announced an expansion of the Taking Care Fund to provide emergency monetary assistance to Washington-area theater professionals in times of unforeseen financial hardship due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Any theater professional currently residing in and who has actively worked in the Washington metropolitan area within the past two years is eligible to apply for emergency relief.
Update as of October 27, 2020: Financial assistance in the form of grants from $500 to $5,000 is now available, with the average grant estimated to be $1,500. Applications received by the 5th of each month will be reviewed by the staff and Advisory Panel on a monthly basis. Grants will be awarded to applicants with the greatest need based on the information provided, and the amount of the grant will be determined by the number of applications received. Previous funding will be taken into account when distributing grants.
While this is a critical time for many in the community, we hope to provide assistance to as many of our colleagues as the funding allows.
For grants awarded over $500, receipts or other supporting paperwork will be requested from the applicant for payment to be dispersed.
