To Washington's Theatre Artists!

In the midst of our preparations for the Helen Hayes Awards on May 23, I want to take a moment and make sure you're aware of a unique opportunity for theatre artists living in Washington, DC.

The DC Commission on the Arts And Humanities (DCCAH) is accepting applications for its Fellowship Program through May 20, and theatre artists of all kinds are encouraged to apply!

The Fellowship grants up to $10,000 to the individual artist, and is not project based. Instead, it focuses entirely on providing financial support to the people who make our city such a diverse, dynamic, and talented community.

And that means you!

Both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Your talents can be demonstrated through original play scripts, design renderings and production photos, videotaped performances, and director's concept statements. Check DCCAH guidelines for details on each discipline. (You must be a Washington resident for at least two years, and be 18 or older.) Don't miss the Commission's Grant Writing Workshop on May 5.

From what I've heard, theatre folk have been underrepresented in the applicant pool in recent years, so I urge you to take advantage of this unique opportunity. The Commission is putting its trust in Washington's artists. It's time to represent.
