On August 19, 2016 Toby’s Dinner Theatre lost a longtime employee and friend. Nancy Michel, lover and supporter of the arts, passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Nancy will be remembered as a spiritual person who was tolerant, understanding, and accepting of others. She felt strongly about social and political causes and was a political activist in her younger years. An artist from the day she was born, she graduated with a Fine Arts degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and spent many years as an independent artist. For the past 21 years, she was a treasured Toby’s Dinner Theatre employee (Director of Marketing), Helen Hayes Theatre Nominee & Coordinator, family member and friend.
“Nancy Michel was a feisty, fun, and stalwart partner who assured fair and balanced adjudication for Toby’s Dinner Theatre as a company participating in the Helen Hayes Awards,” stated former theatreWashington staffer Brad Watkins.” She worked out the many idiosyncrasies and challenges with a sense of humor and a heavy sigh many times. Nancy wanted to make sure the great talents and assets of her company were fairly reviewed and shared pride in the many artistic achievements which came out of Columbia. I know she carried a big piece of the pie in Toby’s operations and am sure she is sorely missed.”
Nancy’s family asks that friends remember her by sharing stories via social media and to please consider making a donation to Mercy Medical Center, which provided her with expert, compassionate care until the very end.
